Housebreak Your Beagle

Beagles are cute adorable medium sized dogs. Who can resist those long silky floppy ears and those big brown doe like eyes. Those seemingly docile eyes hide a very energetic and highly intelligent puppy. There are many challenges to face when you are trying to housebreak your beagle.

Beagles due to their high intelligence can sometimes be stubborn so the sooner you start to socialize your beagle buddy and housebreak your beagle the quicker you will bond. Your beagle’s bonding with you at an early age will help him be happier and more balanced as he matures into an adult.

When trying to housebreak your beagle a crate is highly recommended. You are definitely going to want and train your beagle to do his business outside. A beagle has a very acute sense of smell so when you are trying to housebreak your beagle you should be trying to avoid any accidents. If an accident does happen take the paper towel that you used to clean up the mess and put it outside in his designated potty spot. This will draw the beagle to that spot. Make sure you use a cleaner specifically for cleaning up dog messes. You do not want any smells lingering in the house.

Beagle puppies are very high energy so to help to housebreak your beagle make sure he gets plenty of exercise. Also they responded well to positive reinforcement training whether that is through treats or verbal praise. Keep the treats to a minimum though since overweight beagles can suffer from some serious health problems.

While trying to housebreak your beagle you need to keep to a routine. Take your beagle out of his crate first thing in the morning and take him outside on a leash to go potty. Encourage him to go potty. Whatever phrase you pick stick to it. When your beagle does go potty, praise, praise and more praise.

Bring your little buddy back in and feed. Keep an eye on him, if your beagle puppy starts to sniff and circle it is time to put the leash on and take him back out to go potty again. From eating to going potty again is usually from 20 to 30 minutes. Each puppy is different so as continue to take steps to housebreak your beagle you will know when to take him out.
Routine is very important. Your puppy will pick up quickly if you just stick to a routine and in no time you will have a housebroken beagle.

Make sure when you take your beagle out to go potty that he is on a leash. Your beagle will chase anything that moves so if he is not on a leash you could lose him quite quickly.

Remember praise and routine will help immensely as you housebreak your beagle.
